Below is a quick overview of the many performances and events on show over the weekend.



Centre Stage:

Bob the Builder Show:


Bob the Builder ShowCome and see Bob the Builder, a popular character with children and adults alike, when he performs all his favourite songs live on stage with his host. Children can join the fun and sing along to his familiar songs.











The Icons:


The IconsPopular Brisbance band, The Icons, will fill Riverway with the sounds of Greece. Enjoy an entertaining mix of traditional and modern music played on the bouzouki and lira.











Loads of Dancing:


Greek DancingYou will be treated to dances from all over Greece and Asia Minor by three great dance groups. Exquisite costumes and interesting dances will keep you entertained the whole weekend.

Costume Parade:


Greek Costume ParadeHellenic Dancers of Brisbane will parade in various exquisite costumes from all over Greece and Asia Minor.


















The IGA Kouzina:


IGA Cooking lessonsMaria will take you on a culinary journey in the new outdoor Greek Festival IGA kouzina (kitchen), where they will teach you the art of fantastic Greek cooking - entrees, mains and desserts. You will be given a sample of what they make to taste.

Keep an eye out for her cheeky side-kick Biko.

Our very own Xstrata Greek Fest cookbook will also be on sale so you can try your hand at these dishes too!




Competitions:


grape stompingTest your speed and dexterity with the new event for 2008 - The Plate Smashing Challenge!

Not to mention other competitions held throughout the festival including Grape Stomping, Olive Spitting Challenge, dancing competitions and many more.










Give-Away:


BLT Business and Leisure Travel give away competitionWin $2000 worth of international travel through BLT Business and Leisure Travel. Just fill in a coupon available in the Sun Newspaper or at the 2008 Xstrata Greek Fest and enter it in the barrel provided in the Agora/Marketplace Marquee.

By the lagoon:


Dancing Lessons:


Hellenic Dancers 1Over both days you will have an opportunity to learn how dance! Learn traditional Greek dancing with the Hellenic Dancers and get your hips gyrating when you try belly dancing with the fantastic Scimitar Moon Belly Dancers.

The following films will be screened throughout the day, gold coin donation to be given to specified charity.

The Village Green:


Rides and Side-Shows:


RidesThis year there will be a huge range of rides for young and old to enjoy. They will be available throughout the whole weekend.

Dodgem Cars, Super Swing, Roller Coaster, Double Bubble, Ferris Wheel, Super Slide, Shooting Gallery, Laughing Clowns.

Melville's Animal Farm: Bring the children to pat the baby animals.






Children's Activities Marquee:


Rides

There will be plenty to do in the children's marquee including:

Face Painting: Available all day, come and see the Pink Ladies to add some colour to your day.

Costume Making: Become a real Greek by making a Spartan costume, a shield or a mythical mask.

Painting: Help paint a mural of the Parthenon and Gods.

Clowns: Emmanuel the Clown will be making appearances throughout the day making balloon shapes to give-away.
